The 4th edition of OIA will take place from 21 to 24 February 2023 as the official summit of The Ocean Race stopover in Cape Town
Dear Ocean Friends,
We are pleased to announce that plans for the fourth edition of Ocean Innovation Africa are well underway and include some exciting new partners, opportunities, and formats. We have moved the event dates from October/November to the 21st to the 24th of February 2023. We are very happy to return to a fully in-person summit and looking forward to our biggest event yet! Cape Town will be abuzz in summer so be sure to book your accommodation in good time and leave some space in your agenda to enjoy the highlights of South Africa’s Mother City 🌞 🌊
Ocean Innovation Africa will be teaming with The Ocean Race Cape Town Stopover on this edition as the official summit of the stopover. The summit will take place just in time to catch the scheduled restart of the race over the weekend. ⛵️
Ocean Innovation Africa endeavours to inspire more oceans-conscious innovators and businesses, entice more private capital investment and catalyse more partnerships in the African blue economy, and part of this is achieved by showcasing leaders in corporate stewardship.
The Ocean Race has been a champion of marine sustainability, going far beyond corporate responsibility in harnessing the race platform to advocate for ocean health. As part of the organisations “Racing with Purpose” philosophy, a Race Village is set up in each host city for the duration of the stopover to engage with local change makers on enhanced commitments and action to address threats to marine health.
We are proud to partner with The Ocean Race Cape Town Stopover as their official summit in Cape Town and excited for the opportunity to showcase the African ocean economy to a broader global audience.

The fourth Ocean Innovation Africa summit will feature more participative sessions like debates and pechakuchas, as well as additional networking and B2B opportunities. The programme and agenda will be based in many aspects on the outcomes of the July 2022 OIA workshop series (HYPERLINK) held in honour of African Day of Oceans and Seas.
The workshops brought together key stakeholders capable of informing and driving meaningful change in their field and were aimed at facilitating collaborative action on some of the goals and challenges raised at the summit. Progress and outcomes from the groups will be reported at the 2023 event – be sure to catch the conclusions of these dynamic discussions!
Take a look at the event website (HYPERLINK) and pre-register (HYPERLINK) to stay informed about programme developments and speakers.
We are very excited for this next edition and to see how we can leverage the Ocean Innovation Africa platform to strengthen collaborative action in the African ocean-impact ecosystem. The event has gone from strength to strength and we look forward to an even more insightful and engaging summit in 2023.
