Musa Mbhele is the City Manager of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, where he serves as the administrative head of one of South Africa’s largest metropolitan municipalities. Appointed to the role in 2022 following an extended period in an acting capacity, he is responsible for overseeing municipal operations, service delivery, governance, and strategic implementation across the city.

Mbhele brings extensive experience in local government, having previously held senior leadership positions, including serving as Chief Operating Officer at eThekwini and as municipal manager at other municipalities. His background spans development planning, infrastructure management, and organisational leadership, supported by academic qualifications in social sciences, town and regional planning, business management, and project management.

With a career rooted in public-sector transformation, Mbhele focuses on strengthening governance, improving service delivery, and enhancing operational efficiency within the municipality. He plays a central role in driving strategic programmes to stabilise and improve the metro’s performance in a complex urban environment.
