Andrew Gordon joined the Marine Stewardship Council in 2017 as Fisheries Outreach Manager for Southern Africa. An interest in oceans and rivers and the creatures that inhabit them led him to undertake a Masters in Ichthyology and Fisheries Science and then a PhD in Water Resource Science. After an initial foray into aquaculture, Andrew spent 14 years in the field and laboratory investigating the responses of aquatic organisms to pollution stress. For the last 4 years he has been engaging with fisheries in southern Africa and the western Indian Ocean, helping them utilise the MSC’s Fisheries Standard, as a framework, and the MSC’s improvement tools to guide them toward more sustainable operations.
